Alltel Data Network Retirement
VZW has been operating two data networks since the Verizon-Alltel merger and will retire a portion of the former Alltel data network on April 1, 2013.
Verizon will begin to suspend, remove and/or disconnect data features from customers who still have Alltel-branded equipment starting on January 10, 2013.
Customers using data with Alltel-branded equipment should receive communications that outline the retirement of the portion of the former Alltel data network that is owned and operated by VZW.
BASIC DEVICES: If the Customers whom are using Alltel-branded Basic devices do not take action and upgrade to a VZW device, they will still be able to use their Basic Phones for voice and text messaging, but will no longer be able to use data services such as email, picture messaging, apps, Internet, ringtones, etc. A data feature block will be applied to all Alltel-branded devices that use data and all existing data features will be removed.
SMARTPHONES: Customers using Alltel-branded Smartphone devices will no longer be able to use them for voice or data if they do not take action and upgrade to a VZW Smartphone.
MOBILE BROADBAND: Customers using Alltel-branded Mobile Broadband (MBB) devices will no longer be able to use them for voice or data if they do not take action and upgrade to a VZW MBB device.
