Immersive Mode: Making Android 4.4 KitKat Even Better
With the Android 4.4 KitKat update being made available for the Droid 2013 Series, including the Maxx, Mini and Ultra, it brought with it “immersive mode.” Through this new mode you will be able to quickly access your notifications even on those apps that take up the entire smartphone or tablet screen. Previously Android users had to either exit or pause the app currently in use in order to access this function.
This introduction of immersive mode with Android 4.4 KitKat is a great new system for users. Now that it is available it will be up to app developers to integrate immersive mode into their apps through updates. So far we have seen quite a few developers already make use of the new immersive mode.
The following are apps that currently use immersive mode:
Badland
Beach Buggy Blitz
ComicRack
Comixology
Dayframe
DicePlayer
Dynamic Notifications
EVAC (and all other games by Hexage)
FBReader
Feedex
Flixter
Google Play Books
Google Search
Hangouts (when viewing images)
Instapaper
Manga Plus
Moon Reader
MX Player
Nest
Paint Splash!
Perfect Pixel ChecStack4
Perfect Viewer
Pow Comics Reader
Press
QuickPic
Radient
Riptide GP2
Robotek
Santa Tracker
Snapchat
Snes9x and All “.emu” series of emulators by Robert Broglia
Stack4
VSCO Cam
Widget Locker
With the KitKat update only made available now and seeing how many developers have already taken to integrating immersive mode into their apps it’ll be exciting to see what else happens on the Android platform moving forward. One thing is for sure, navigating on an Android was just made a little easier and that is good.
