INDYCAR and Verizon Announce New Partnership Deal
It has been announced that INDYCAR has signed a multi-year agreement with Verizon that will see North America’s premier open-wheel racing championship named the Verizon INDYCAR Series. This new multi-year deal extends Verizon’s official partnership with INDYCAR that has been going for the past four years. Verizon is also the primary sponsor to the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car driven by Will Power.
This partnership between INDYCAR and Verizon will begin with the opening INDYCAR season race on March 30th at the Firestone GrandPrix of St.Petersburg. During the course of the 2014 INDYCAR season we will have 18-races taking place with 12 on road and street courses; and six races on a variety of short ovals and superspeedways. The season will be highlighted by the 98th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race on May 25th.
This partnership will also see a significant upgrade to the network coverage to the Indianapolis 500, which will be part of Project 100. During the course of the partnership there will also be short- and long-term technology enhancements to INDYCAR Race Control, addition of pit lane monitors and enhanced connectivity for spectators at each domestic race venue. In the future Verizon will also deploy its LTE Multicast solution at racetracks to further complement the Verizon INDYCAR 14 app and indycar.com, the official website of INDYCAR.
Verizon will also continue its sponsorship of the Verizon P1 Award, which is presented to the Verizon INDYCAR Series pole winner in each race.
“Verizon is the perfect partner for us to showcase the high level of innovation and technology that is inherent in our sport,” said Mark Miles, CEO, Hulman & Co., the parent of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “INDYCAR will provide a large audience of tech-savvy consumers who are eager for the latest technology to further enhance their experience.”
