News: Spotify Eyeing a Free Mobile Music Service
The Wall Street Journel is reporting that Spotify will soon release a free ad-supported version of their service for mobile users, similar to the free versions available on desktop and laptop computers. This move to introduce a free mobile version of their music service could be Spotify’s answer to Rdio, another popular music streaming service, which released a free version of their service in the latter part of this year.
In her article on the WSJ, Hannah Karp wrote “The new ad-supported offering will allow nonpaying mobile users to play a limited number of songs on demand, but will mostly serve up music based on the user’s input, much like custom radio services such as Pandora Media Inc., these people said.”
Spotify’s current premium model offers user unlimited, on-demand music for a premium cost of $10 a month. Currently mobile users are paying a monthly fee to access Spotify’s service on their devices.
