Pantech Marauder – An Inexpensive Messaging Smartphone Option

The Pantech Marauder measures 5.1 by 2.6 by .5 inches and weighs a hefty 6.1 ounces or more than a third of a pound. It has a 3.8 inch, 800-by-480-pixel capacitive touch screen which looks bright and sharp enough but seems a little small and difficult to view in sunlight. Also, it has a VGA front facing camera and a 5MP rear facing camera but does not have a flash. The quality and detail of pictures are good but looks a bit washed-out. It has a 1680 mAh Li-Ion battery which roughly translates to 8 hours of talk time. It ships with android 4.0 ice cream sandwich and is powered with a 1.2GZ dual core (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960) processor. On top of that, it runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE network for faster web browsing and downloads. Made out of textured black plastic, it feels solid and easy to hold. For quick messaging, in addition to a fully capable touchscreen, the Marauder features a five row slide-out QWERTY keyboard with dedicated number keys across the top.  The keys are backlit and are generously sized, however, the buttons are virtually flat on the surface of the phone which may make it hard for some people to press. The Marauder is aimed at first time smartphone users. It provides a dual-interface option that allows the user to choose between Starter and Standard mode. The starter mode is designed for beginners. It has a more streamlined design and a simplified app drawer while the standard mode is for more advance users.

The Pantech Marauder is an inexpensive phone with great features and pretty good performance. It has a large keyboard, decent specs, and runs with Android 4.0. On the other hand, it’s very bulky and heavy and its camera is only average at best. The Pantech Marauder is an inexpensive messaging smartphone recommended for first time smartphone users.
