Paper Pages Versus Digital Screens
According to BookStats, the US book and journal publishing industry had an estimated 27.01 billion dollars in revenue in the previous year with over two billion units sold — and a lot of those units were electronic media. The ebook and audiobook sales, not surprisingly, hit an all-time high in 2013.
Paperback is still the topmost sold format, while sales of ebooks and audiobooks have continuously increased. Ebook revenues, though, have remained flat despite sales surge because these digital versions are much cheaper than their printed counterparts.
BookStats also found that online retailers are now the preferred purchase point for book consumers over the regular brick-and-mortar bookstore.
