Windows 8 Tips and Tricks

With the new Nokia Lumia 822 and HTC Windows Phone 8X launched, we wanted to share some Tips and Tricks on Creating Groups, Multitasking, Email and commonly used applications for Windows devices.

Creating Groups: When you create a Group, it shows up at the top of your contact list. Tap it, and you’ll see the Group members’ Live Tiles and social networking updates, along with options for group email, texting, and chat.

To create a new Group

  1. On Start, tap People.
  2. Flick to All, and then tap New .
  3. Tap New Group.
  4. Type a name for your Group, then tap Add a contact. Tap a contact name to add it to the Group, and then tap Save . The new Group will appear at the top of your contact list.

Tip:  If you pin a Group to Start, its Live Tile will show new messages, missed phone calls, and social network posts from the members. You can tap and hold a Group to pin it to Start, edit it, or delete it.

Note: When texting a group you will not receive messages back in the group format but will rather reply and receive messages from the one individual.

Tell it to your Phone: Search with your voice, no typing required—press and hold the Start button to open up Speech, then tell your phone what you want it to find.

Multitasking: Keep your place in a game while checking email? No problem. Just press and hold the Back button to see your recent apps, and tap one to go to it.

Wallet: Wallet is a secure place for you to store digital versions of cards, coupons, and more—the same stuff you’d keep in your actual wallet. Store loyalty cards, membership cards, coupons and more.

Cap Locks: To turn on Caps Lock tap and hold or double‐tap the Shift key. Tap it again to turn it off.

Email: Your email messages will be group by conversation by default. You can change this by opening your email and going into settings and turning conversations “off” or “on”. When you turn on conversations in your email inbox, all of the messages that share a common subject are grouped together. You can expand or collapse the whole group, and review all of the messages together, including ones you’ve sent.

Additional options or Settings: As seen in the screen shoot, whenever you are looking for more options or settings with in application, look for the … (3 dots) found in the lower right hand corner. By tapping on these dots you will gain additional options and settings to control an application.
